Preston Allen, M.S.Ed.

Senior Associate

Preston Allen, M.S.Ed. served as senior management of Student Affairs at Michigan State University, University of California, Irvine and California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo for more than 40 years, providing leadership programs and services for the campus community.

 

Mr. Allen joined Cal Poly in 1993 as the Executive Director for Cal Poly’s University Housing Department. He had direct responsibility for the administration and management of the department, with an annual budget exceeding $45 million while serving 8,300 students residing in four residential complexes. While in the position, he had oversight in the development and construction of three housing complexes and four

administration centers with $600 million in project development budgets.

 

He also served as interim Vice President for the Student Affairs Division at Cal Poly, providing leadership and operational direction for 10 divisional units. While serving in the position, he focused on leadership, organizational structure and performance. Allen retired as the Senior Associate Vice President for Student Affairs / Executive Director of University Housing.

 

Mr. Allen is widely recognized for his effective working relationships with campus administrators and his relationships with local city officials as well as community groups. Also, he has served as a professional leadership coach and consultant, and assisted in long-range planning. His range of skills includes strategic planning, equity engagement, leadership, organizational structure and performance. He maintains affiliations with many professional organizations and serves on several community non-profit boards.
